Do I need dental x-rays ?
by: Dental Assistant Team
Most people will visit their dentist two to three times a year to have get their teeth cleaned, but what about x-rays?
In our office, we encourage our patients to have check up x-rays, once a year. They are called bitewings.
It isn't uncommon for patients to voice concerns about having x-rays taken and the exposure to radiations. At Drs Rohrer's office we use digital x-rays. Digital dental x-rays are a new technology that allows us not only to see the x-ray right after taking it, but also expose you to very little radiation as opposed to traditional x-rays.
We are conscious of your general health. Among other precautions, we make sure you are wearing a lead shield to avoid unnecessary exposure to radiation.
X-rays offer an array of advantages for diagnostics and help us see what is underneath your gums and between your teeth. It is a tool we use to keep your mouth healthy. X-rays help us see what our eyes cannot see even with magnification
For some patient we will recommend to have bitewings taken more than once a year if we are watching how an area of concern is progressing.
X-rays are a great preventative tool as they enable us to see a problem forming and catch it while still small, preventing it from growing into a painful and expensive condition down the road. Early detection means shorter dental visits and check ups.
So, do you need x-rays taken? Yes! We encourage our patients to have x-rays taken once a year, usually at the time of your check up.
Let's keep an eye on your teeth and keep them healthy! And don't forget to get your bitewings taken once a year!
