Superfood

It seems like the list of superfood is getting longer and longer, so I decided to take a closer look to see which ones should make my list. I truly believe that what I put in my body is the key to achieve optimum health.

So my list starts with all dark green leafy vegetables such as kale, broccoli, spinach (seems that these are on everyone's list). Then, all the colorful vegetables and fruits. Avocados, Brussels sprouts, asparagus, cabbage, sprouts, wheat grass, all of these make my list.

The reason why I like to include dark green vegetables in my diet is that they contain a lot more chlorophyll and help my body stay in an alkaline state, which is believed to be a good way to prevent cancer cells from developing.

All dark berries such as blueberries, goji berries, and acai berries are loaded with antioxidants which helps maintain your immune system strong. Tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and winter squash make the list as well.

Cherries, bananas, grapes, cantaloupes, kiwis, pumpkins, and pineapples, make the list as the colorful fruits & veggie. Beets are considered by many to be a cancer fighter and also good for your liver.

Nuts make my list as well as they are high in protein, as well as quinoa and beans, and are great if you are on a plant base protein diet.

Chia seeds are also on my list due to their high content of antioxidants. Chia has as much omega 3 as salmon and more calcium than milk!

Now, you do not have to be vegetarian or vegan to build the best list of superfoods. Salmon and eggs make the list for those consuming animal protein. Salmon is high in omega 3. Flax seeds are a good substitute for salmon if you do not care for it, or if you are vegan or vegetarian.

The Indian spice Tumeric also makes my list for its strong anti inflammatory, antiseptic, and antioxidant properties. Tumeric is believed by many to be a cancer fighter and also good to fight parasites.

I also put coconut oil on my list as it is believed to help fight viruses, boost thyroid function, and reduce cholesterol. Coconut oil is also supposed to be good for your memory.

Ginger is also at the center of my list of superfoods. Ginger is believed to be a blood cleanser, it helps fight nausea, and can to soothe an upset stomach. Ginger is commonly regarded as a great ally in supporting colon health, and to get rid of toxins. Juice it and drink a few ounces of it, add it in your food, the possibilities are endless with ginger.

Another one on my list: cacao. The higher the concentration, the better. Who can say no to a piece of chocolate? Red wine also makes the list for its high content in antioxidants which are believed to be good for prostate health gentlemen! A glass of red wine with dinner? Very European I must say!

So vegan, vegetarian or meat and fish eater, the list of superfoods is definitely a long one. And everyone can find something he or she will enjoy eating.

I want to highlight that I composed this list based on my research, personal taste, and dietary habits which may be very different than yours. If some foods or spices do not appeal to you, don't force it. I believe in listening to your body to find what will work best for you. Cinnamon is on a lot of people's list of superfoods, but I don't particularly care for it so it isn't on mine.

Read, listen to your body, and try new foods. Ultimately, after some trial and errors you will have your list of the best superfoods for you!
