Lemon Essential Oil
by: Dental Assistant Team
Lemon essential oil is an oil I use on a daily basis. And of course, one of my favorites!
Aside from the nice scent of lemon, lemon essential oil is has many other properties which is why I like it so much. Lemon essential oil can be ingested, as an aromatic, and for topical uses.
I find the distinctive scent of lemon essential oil to be very uplifting. Many believe that lemon oil is good for lifting the spirit and help with depression. Many medical doctors and researchers believe that lemon essential oil offers tremendous health properties, including: anti-cancer, antidepressant, antiseptic, antifungal, antioxidant, antiviral, astringent, invigorating, refreshing and tonic.
I enjoy putting a drop in my water, knowing it will help keep me in an Alkaline state. Squeezing a fresh lemon in your water can be a job: clean, cut, squeeze, clean up. Putting a drop of lemon essential oil in your water is a quick alternative. Remember, you must use a glass container (glass or bottle), do not use in a plastic bottle! Lemon essential oil can melt the plastic and you could end up ingesting dangerous toxins from the melted plastic. So always use a glass container.
Lemon essential oil is also great in cooking. Just one drop will elevate your salad, smoothie, or fish marinade.
For topical use, it is recommended to stay away from the direct sun for at least 12 hours as lemon essential oil can cause severe skin irritation when combined with the sun exposure.
To use lemon essential oil as fragrance, simply put a few drops or in a spray bottle and use it as an air freshener.
Common uses around the house include removal of anything sticky: gum, glue, etc... Lemon essential oil will take those sticky spots away!
