What Do I Do About The Coating On My Tongue?
Do you have a pale yellow film or coating on your tongue? This is more common than you realize, and you should know it is not necessarily a disease… although it can be a sign of infection. Remember, your mouth is full of bacteria… some good, some not so good. If you notice any changes in appearance, or if your tongue is sore, get your tongue and mouth checked.
Drinking plenty of water, as well as brushing and scraping your tongue every day can help diminish the issue. In fact, we recommend patients to brush and scrape their tongue daily even without coating on it.
The tongue is also a fairly common area for the development of oral cancer. We offer oral cancer screening and recommend all of our patients be tested yearly. Additionally, we have utilize advanced bacteriological testing (CAMBRA) to help you reduce your chance in developing cavities in the near future.
